The Harry W. Nice/Thomas “Mac” Middleton Bridge over the Potomac River opened to the public on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. The 1.9-mile bridge connects Maryland and Virginia and will deliver faster and safer travel to both Marylanders and Virginians by doubling the lane capacity and replacing the old toll plaza with state-of-the-art electronic tolling. The new bridge also accommodates cyclists by providing compatible shoulders and intelligent transportation systems.
Wallace Montgomery supported AECOM by providing highway; roadway signing, marking and lighting; maintenance of traffic; stormwater management; and erosion and sediment control design services.
In a partnership with the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), the AECOM Team delivered this project within budget and almost three months ahead of schedule.
We are honored to be part of the AECOM Team and to have worked with the MDTA to deliver this historic bridge replacement project. Congratulations to everyone involved!

“I’m over the moon with this project. We had to deliver this mega project in the middle of the pandemic, when teleworking was not a thing. We all committed to the goal and delivered always on time, always with quality. Every Engineer gave their best to make it happen. Such a fantastic moment to be part of the WM family.”
